Belknap is from Damariscotta in Maine. She is the daughter of David Belknap and Louise Belknap. She was educated at Lincoln Academy located in Newcastle, Maine. When she was a student of Middlebury College (Vermont), she was interested in the performing arts. Her next stop was in the American Conservatory Theater where she earned a Masters of Fine Arts. Belknap is known for her television roles including regular series role (related to ER and Third Watch), The Handler as well as recurring characters. Other credits include the guest-starring role, Law & Order Law & Order Special Victims as well as Without a Trace. Belknap was first seen in a movie, The Reality Trap. PEOPLE received a press statement from the couple which read: "We can confirm we've decided to separate. The couple made the decision in a peaceful and mutual way."
